Edited by Todd DePastino. Two book set.
Collected here in two volumes are Mauldin's (1921-2003) complete works from 1940 through the end of WWII. These 600 plus cartoons were printed during the war years as small collections and small newspaper runs as the "Star Spangled Banter" and eventually in Stars and Stripes the Army daily newspaper, and most have never been reprinted. Mauldin's real-life humor of life in the Army drew negative attention from General Patton and Eisenhower interceded in his behalf. By the end of the war he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize and the Army's Legion of Merit Award. In 1959 he won a second Pulitzer Prize for his editorial cartoons. A brief biography by DePastino introduces this outstanding collection. Laugh and cry with these cartoons which are a great slice of history. Slipcase.
