With 70 color plates, this is a great collection of Homer's (1836-1910) work. An American landscape painter and printmaker working primarily in oils and watercolor, he is best know for his marine subjects. Having lived in Gloucester and Maine and taking regular trips to the Caribbean, his paintings of the sea were varied and numerous. His watercolors proved popular and enduring with a technique that was natural, fluid and confident. In terms of quality and invention, Homer's achievements as a watercolorist are unparalleled.
