Our description nicely captures why this series was so popular in its time, is still loved today, and why this first volume has been just about the best-selling in DC's Showcase series. Top flight artists, writer and story. It doesn't get any better in the world of comics.I'm predjudiced because like many comic fans my age 56, I was reading these stories in the early to mid 1960s. I can still remember those first Haunted Tank stories which left a real impression on me. I wasn't a collector when I first discovered them, just another 11 or 12-year-old kid with some dimes to spend on comic books. I got hooked on Sgt. Rock and even subscribed to it, but those wonderful tales of this underdog outfit, pushed around and threatened by superior Nazii 88's would use their heads and always squeak through. I'm sure that's why any kid would love this, since that's how we felt about the world...everything around was bigger, stronger and more powerful than we were. Yet here was a ordinary group of soldiers and a little, much picked-upon tank even by their own compatriots, who'd use their guts and brains to stay alive and keep fighting the good fight. Great stuff and lots of it, over 500 pages of stories!
