Stunningly beautiful with saturated rich colors, this mixes traditional woodblock prints with more modern imagery and art styles. The shin hanga (new print) movement flourished in Japan for almost 50 years in the early 20th century, nurtured by publisher Watanabe Shozaburo (1885-1962). The studio created woodblock prints that updated traditional ukiyo-e prints by including Kabuki actor portraits, snow-laden trees, birds, even the Golden Gate Bridge and Orientalist themes. More than 100 color images by the more prominent artists of the movement, including: Yoshida Hiroshi, Yoshida Toshi, Kawase Hasui, and more.
