SALOONS, BARS AND CIGAR STORES
By Roger E. Kislingbury.
Historical Interior Photographs.
This wonderful volume has an antique feel from contents to cover design. More than 150 sepia photographs (and some rare color lithographs) depict bars and cigar stores of the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Divided into categories such as "Patrons, Bartenders, Proprietors" and "Taxidermy, Dogs and Moose Parts," most of the illustrations have brief descriptive text. Classic photos of sleeping dogs, mooseheads and manly men stepping up for a drink when a bar was a welcome retreat from the harsh world of mining, ranching and cowboy work.
Black embossed leatherette cover with stamped gold antique lettering, interior pages have rounded edges. Index, bibliography.

More great historic photos! Another time, another era, a view into the commercialism that catered to the man's world of smokin' and drinking and playing cards. These places were more finished or refined than what we think of as the old west saloons yet they are definitely pre-prohibition. A great collection of photos.
