THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER
By Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Gustave Doré.
The classic tale of adventure and misfortune on the high seas is brought to life by beautiful and haunting engravings by Doré in this handsome edition. In it, the ancient Mariner relates a nightmarish voyage aboard a ship beset by supernatural events. After days of suffering the Mariner has an epiphany and he continues his penance by roaming the earth spreading his love for God's creation. This is regarded as one of the greatest narrative poems in the English language, and Doré's masterful illustrations are considered some of his best. This edition concludes with Coleridge's acclaimed poems "Frost at Midnight," "This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison," and "Kubla Khan."
