By Sophia Craze.
With 76 color plates, this is a great collection of Cassatt's (1844-1926) work. She was an American painter and printmaker who lived much of her adult life in France, where she befriended Degas and exhibited with the Impressionists. Her portraits of women and children are uniquely intimate, and her technical skills facilitated daring departures from accepted styles, much to the astonishment of critics and other painters. The large body of work shown here include oils, pastels and a series of highly original colored drypoint and aquatint prints, which established her in the new graphic arts movement in Paris.
