THE INCREDIBLE MR. POE
By M. Thomas Inge.
Comic Book Adaptations of the Works of Edgar Allan Poe, 1943-2007.
The macabre imagination of Edgar Allan Poe is fertile ground for comic adaptations and Richmond Virginia's Edgar Allan Poe Museum collected the best for this exhibition and catalogue raisonne. Selections highlight everything from the terrifying EC Comics adaptations to the bizarre appearance of Poe in a Scooby Doo story! The otherworldly influence of Poe on the comics is celebrated here in the art and explanatory text, and proves again the universal appeal of his legendary work.

Customer Reviews:
From: Bud Plant Posted: 07/15/08
The author M. Thomas Inge is well known for his many books on the world of comics. Here he has put together a first-ever look at the work of Poe in comic books, from Golden Age Classics Illustrated, to lifted stories in EC, to Warren magazines, Marvel horror comics of the 1970s, right up to the present day. This small but handsome and full color book was put together by the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia. It's one of those sweet little books that once it's out of print, it will be impossible to find. The print run is never very many on these, and mostly they go into the collections of museum-goers. Inge takes us on an illustrated journey through comics and Poe's classic tales of horror and imagination. It's a lot of fun.
