By Cynthea Bogel and Israel Goldman.
A wonderful volume dedicated to the extraordinary prints of Andô Hiroshige (1797-1858). Over 100 images fill this handsome oversized coffee-table book. These are the finest examples of Hiroshige's bird and flower prints and are perhaps the best demonstration of his poetic and idyllic sense of nature. Meticulously rendered with great attention to detail, they are careful studies of the principles and workings of the natural universe. Opposite each full-page plate Goldman relates the print's significance and the accompanying poem, (most often a haiku verse), translated by Alfred Marks. Occasional minor scuffing to duskjacket.
