GATTORNO: A Cuban Painter for the World
By Sean M. Poole.
Antonio Gattorno (1904-1980) was a Cuban artist who traveled and studied in Europe, returned to Cuba and eventually moved to the U.S. to be part of the vibrant New York art scene. In this beautiful collection of his art, you see his work evolve over the years from a primitive style reminiscent of Gauguin to a mature phase, which incorporated elements of surrealism, romanticism, abstraction and classical composition. Hemingway wrote a monograph for his dear friend in 1935 called Gattorno. A great collection of his art and a great tribute to a fine painter.
