By George Mott.
Originally created for the 1944 Olympic Games, the Stadio del Marmi was Mussolini's attempt to build a stadium even greater than the Coliseum. The Olympics were postponed by World War II that year and the stadium was ridiculed as a monument to fascist propaganda. Mott has beautifully photographed the 60 giant marble statues which encircle the arena. These heroic sculptures feature Herculean titans at the peak of physical fitness and the Stadio has recently been re-evaluated as a monument to the art and culture of the Italian people. Introduction and foreword by noted fashion designer Georgio Armani. Slipcased.
