EDWARD HOPPER
By Sherry Marker.
With over 65 color plates, this is a great collection of Hopper's (1882-1967) work. While primarily known for his oil paintings, he was equally proficient with watercolors and printmaking. Urban and rural desolation are recurring themes in his work with sharp lines and large blank spaces exaggerated by unusual lighting. Hopper captured the lonely mood of his subjects with brilliant light and shadows and the large format of this book augments the sense of the emptiness which he frequently depicted.
