Sixty-one full page color plates. These pictures were the result of an 1839 journey of Scottish landscape artist David Roberts (1796-1864). This is a magnificently illustrated journey along the Nile valley, from Alexandria to the temples of Abu Simbel.
These picturesque yet precisely detailed lithographs were made from Roberts's travel sketches by Belgian artist Louis Haghe in the 1840s. Bourbon has provided descriptive text for the plates at the end of the book so as not to compromise the beautiful lithographs.
